As the year draws to a close, many people are already looking towards January and their New Year’s resolutions. One of the most common resolutions is to improve one’s fitness, but unfortunately this is also one of the resolutions that most often goes unfulfilled. If you are one of the many people who have tried to build a new fitness habit only to fail, I encourage you to consider joining a personal fitness coaching program. In this article, I’ll go over some of the main benefits of working with a personal fitness coach.
- One of the most common reasons that people fail to stick to a new workout plan, or any new habit, is a lack of accountability. Forming new habits is difficult, and it’s much harder to do it when the only one making you stick to it is you. Personal fitness coaching keeps you accountable for your fitness habits and goals by making sure there’s someone who expects you to do the work. Even if all you get out of the training is consistent gym attendance, it’s still more than most people can manage alone.
- Goal Setting. Another obstacle to forming a regular exercise habit is setting unrealistic goals—if you set your expectations too high too soon, then it’s easy to get discouraged and quit. One of the benefits of personal fitness coaching is that your coach will help you set realistic, achievable goals. Reaching a goal, even a small one, provides powerful motivation to keep going, and over time will build a positive feedback loop that leads to even better results.
- Better, Faster Results. While I did just warn you about the dangers of unrealistic goals, I still want to assure you that personal fitness coaching will help you see better results from your exercise sooner. Most people don’t have a lot of education on how to make an effective workout plan, and when trying to go to the gym on their own, they’re likely to move between machines without a clear sense of what each one does. In contrast, a fitness coach like me will give you a structured workout plan to follow, making sure you’re doing the right exercises with the right equipment. This will produce better results than you can achieve on your own, and on a shorter timeline*.
