If you have trouble sticking to a self-guided fitness routine, professional fitness coaching is a great way to get the structure and accountability you need. However, hiring a fitness coach is just one step in the process, and the factor that will have the biggest impact on your progress is you. In this article, I’ll be going over a few tips on how to get the most out of your fitness coaching service so that you can see the results you’re looking for faster.
- Speak up and ask questions. One of the best things you can do for your progress in fitness coaching is to communicate with your trainer. In my fitness coaching practice, I encourage my clients to let me know when they don’t understand or don’t like something, as letting that confusion or dislike fester will severely impede any progress. In addition, don’t hesitate to ask questions when you have them, as understanding why your trainer makes their recommendations will help you stick to them in the long run.
- Learn and practice good form. A major advantage of using a fitness coaching service is that your trainer will teach you the proper form for each exercise. This is important because using an improper form can lead to injuries in the long term and is likely to hamper your progress in the short term. If you ever need a refresher on the right form, just ask me, and do your best to practice the correct form every time you repeat that exercise.
- Take notes. Lastly, I recommend taking notes during your fitness coaching sessions. Having notes about each exercise and exercise plan will give you a valuable resource for your home workouts, and seeing your past workouts logged on the page is a great way to stay motivated to keep up your streak.
